Globen in Stockholm to host ESC 2016!

by | Jul 8, 2015 | Uncategorized

It was always seen as the most likely option, and today it has been confirmed: Stockholm’s Globe Arena – or, as we fans know it, just plain Globen – will host the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest!

In the wake of Måns Zelmerlöw’s victory in Vienna back in May, there had been suggestions that next year’s event could be held in cities as far-ranging as Gothenburg and Örnsköldsvik. In the end, though, Europe’s favourite music event will return to the site of its 2000 edition. The entire Globe complex, which spans several arenas and locations, will be involved in the hosting effort (green room, press centre, etc.), but it is the iconic spherical Globen that will play host to the contest itself.

Here at escgo!, we are not entirely surprised – when we caught up with Christer Björkman at this year’s Melodifestivalen, he seemed more than a little nostalgic for the charms of Globen (from 2:00 onwards):

The preliminary dates for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest are 10, 12 and 14 May. Further details as we have them!
