And this was it – our last rehearsal blog from the individual country rehearsals for this year!
Thank you for staying with us on escgo.com – and do come back later, for our liveblog from the first dress rehearsal of semi-final 2.
Australia
I am still not convinced. Who is he singing the song to? It’s all still very much closed or sealed to me, like a suitcase that you lost the keys for. Of course it’s an absolutely tight performance, vocally spot-on, but somehow I don’t have any access to it. Neither the song, nor the staging.
France
Two words: Absolutely amazing. Lisa changed #thatdress to a black one, which suits the song, the staging and the topic very well. If you’ve been to the press centre, saw it on screen, and thought it’s awesome, then let me tell you that it’s totally mindblowing to watch – no – to experience it in the hall. Italy didn’t give me goosebumps. This did.
United Kingdom
Bianca doesn’t have the cables on her shoulders anymore. Instead, she now wears a kind of feather boa. Forgive me for not knowing the proper fashion term, here! Good news: The press centre doesn’t burst out in laughter anymore. Or is that bad news, rather? This is still more reminding me of Alex Swings Oscar Sings, than of anything the UK should do on stage.

Germany
Ann Sophie is very confident, her voice breaks a bit in the middle of the third runthrough, but all in all this comes very nicely together. The only danger I see for Germany is that it might come across as too routinized. Considering the context of Ann Sophie’s participation, I’m very happy to see how much better this is, than what was expected by most. Great staging work.
Spain
So, also this, I see for the very first time now. The tiger could be a bit more prominent for my likings, but wow, do they go wild in the middle dance part! I had my doubts if this song can fill an arena, but apparently it can. There’s not many things I’d do differently with it. Just, like I said, something more with the tiger.
Austria
There’s not a lot you can say here, other than that it all sounds decent enough for what it is. They might be neighbouring countries, but there are worlds separating Italy and Austria here in the final. Thanks to its #authenticity it’s the hot candidate to get 12 points from the German jury, but other than that, I don’t see much more potential.
Doing today’s blogging comes with some limitations by the way as you can tell: there’s not much to add anymore to some songs, and the situation for photos in the hall got more difficult as well, with lots more journalists having arrived.
Italy
I’m watching this on the Vienna stage for the first time, so you’ll get my unspoiled first reaction here.
Red Glasses doesn’t seem to be sure where the cameras are, but in general this has a big impact on me. The camerawork is effective, the lights suit the song well. Vocally, some of them don’t give everything, as this is – a rehearsal. People around me have goosebumps. It still doesn’t do that to me, but that’s not saying anything.
Introduction
Good Morning Europe, Good Evening Australia!
We’re once again live in the press centre again to blog about the “Big 7” rehearsals, even after a very very short sleep. There is an issue with my Y key, but as long as coffee is free, I will make it through the day and also provide some photos from the rehearsals. Let’s see if I can do both tasks on my own, now that escgo’s other liveblogging half oximated into the sunny south!
Later today, starting at 15:00 CET, I will also blog live from the first dress rehearsal of semi-final 2, so make sure you don’t miss it!
