Another Eurovision Song Contest is over!
Every year since Oslo 2010, we have been covering the event on location – but for the first time, Malmö saw us doing so with three editors being accredited. This gave us possibilities we never had before. We used them to offer you live reports from the rehearsals and blogs about life in the host city, as usual. But we were also able to spice them up with many photos, interview videos, comments from other journalists and a whole lot of impressions from the Eurovision world.
Since 2010, our site and our ESC coverage have developed bit by bit, from a tiny and mostly personal blog page into a not-so-tiny provider of news, opinions, impressions, photos and videos.
Our decision to restrict the number of articles to the most important news and summary posts has helped us to become popular among readers who don’t want to spend their time searching for articles that are still recent, but that have already been pushed out by other stuff. Our aim of making our visitors “feel” the contest has contributed to our decision of what we do – and what we don’t do.
In Malmö, we had the best chance ever to fulfill this ambitious objective of ours – and we hope we succeeded!
We certainly reached a new magnitude in terms of visitor numbers, with our peak day registering as the most successful in the history of esc-chat.com. To give you an idea of our growth, we more than doubled our visitors compared with Düsseldorf two years ago.
We are still a small site – you might call us the San Marino among the wide range of Eurovision websites out there, some of which are very big players indeed. But Malmö helped us to grow a bit more (something San Marino can’t do as easily), and we’d like to thank YOU for all your support!
Of course, we hope to be back at Eurovision next year, when the contest will be hosted in Denmark. And needless to say, we want to improve even further. If you’d like to help us on this journey, we’d be very happy if you would take part in our survey (click to launch).
Once again, thank you very much for your support. We hope you enjoyed our coverage from Malmö as much as we enjoyed having a great time there!
Martin and Felix
