My Eurovision 2011 begins… at home! The capital of the host country didn’t get chosen as host city. I am over this fact now, and it’s not like there’s no traces of Eurovision here, quite the opposite is the case! The madness began on Friday night, and a long Eurovision Party Marathon is coming up in the next 2 weeks.
Berlin has a quite vivid Eurovision scene, many fans from different countries are living here, and sometimes one gets the feeling they become more and more (not by what you might think though!).
So now let me review the first 2 Parties, and further down, I’ll give you a list of upcoming ones for the case you stay in or decide to visit Berlin.
29 April: Klaro-Party (SchwuZ)
The Klaro-Party is actually a Schlager-Party with 3 different dancefloors, one being a pure Eurovision dancefloor. It’s Berlin’s biggest regular Eurovision Party, taking place a couple of times per year. It usually begins with a Eurovision-Karaoke where you can show your passion for certain songs without any embarrassment. It’s Berlin!!!
The party’s music is provided by two DJs, the biggest problem of the party being that they don’t seem to talk to each other. We get that assumption by the fact, that they play the same songs again and again. You can name them, the usual suspects, especially Fairytale, Drama Queen and Je t’adore get overplayed. However, it’s a Eurovision Party so your common eurovision fanboy goes there on a regular basis, and leaves quite early again, when it’s Azerbaijan 2009 being played for the 4th time on the night. Don’t get me wrong, all of these may be great entries, but there is just so much more that could be chosen to be played. On the good side, right at the beginning of the party, some national final songs got played, like Trackshittaz and Jenny Silver, which we approved of a lot!
The Klaro Party in SchwuZ takes place mostly on the 4th friday in months with 5 fridays, next probably being the 22nd July.
30 April: Eurovision-Pre-Semi-Final-All-Europe-Party
How do you celebrate the beginning of the Düsseldorf weeks? Best with a Finnish Eurovision party in Berlin!
They had a DJ from Finland, proving that he’s better than our Berliner Eurovision-DJs. The place itself can’t get any more eurovisionary, especially the ceiling is very melodifestivalish!
This one was a more intimate party, but very nice and cosy, with a bunch of finnish fans who party here before heading to Düsseldorf. The DJ showed enough taste by playing songs that hardly ever get played on Eurovision parties, like Luxembourg 1983, some polish NF-song from this year or – obviously – a finnish version of Satellite.
This wasn’t the last Eurovision Party in Berlin for this year, obviously:
