Hungary: A poetic tribute

Confession time: although the Hungarian semi-finals were really quite entertaining and yielded a pretty decent bunch of songs for the grand final, it’s hard for a website to properly report on proceedings when one of its writers is being distracted by Norway and Sweden and the other is, for reasons that are still not entirely clear, spending the evening at a Year 8 production of Tintenherz at a Waldorf School just outside Mannheim.

So instead we read up about the event afterwards and – applying the Waldorf spirit of encouraging interpretation and free expression – came up with the following ode to Compact Disco‘s victory in lieu of a more comprehensive article. (We’re sorry.)

Eight songs competed in this year’s “A Dal”
Held in a charming if modest locale
To pick out a song for the big Euro-party
That might score more points than good old Wolf Kati

To sum up the line-up? Some blokes, mostly hairy
Wannabe divas with maquillage scary
Rock, indie and pop, a bubbling brew
With plenty of options to send to Baku

The jury had iPads (at least when they worked)
Professional experts, no bad comment shirked
They’d have the final say, but not before
The televote decreed the fab final four:

A Disco Compact, a piece of Caramel
Gábor Heincz and the Kiralys as well
(With a song jointly written by one Pras Michel.
What the
hell?)

But who would succeed? The vote was quite split
The jurors unable to decide on a hit
Then lo! with two votes, the “Sound Of Our Hearts”
Prevailed o’er its rivals and topped the scorecharts

So that’s a wrap, then: good luck, Compact Disco!
We hope you get more points than did “San Francisco”.
