Bulgaria, Latvia and Iceland – semi-final results

by | Jan 15, 2012 | Uncategorized

In a warm-up for the real “Super Saturdays” facing dedicated Eurovision fans over the coming weeks and months, tonight saw three semi-finals held in Bulgaria, Latvia and Iceland respectively. With webcasts overlapping and results being announced simultaneously in some cases, the #esc chatroom was buzzing – and as always, we managed to juggle the shows and enjoy a night full of the good, the not-so-good and the downright bizarre!

An overview of the results – and, of course, the favourites of the #esc chatters – can be found below.

BULGARIA

12 songs qualified from the semi-final and will compete in the Bulgarian final on 29 February. The lucky dozen were:

Group ‘New 5′ – Chance for better life
Vyara Pantaleyeva – Vyara
Tsvetelin Atasanov-Elvisa ft. DZ – Love goes around
Steliyana Hristova – Putyat
Todor Gadzhalov – Still love you
Dess – Love is alive
Sofi Marinova – Love Unlimited
Svetozar Hristov – Keep me down
Rene Ranev – Alone
Simona Sivanio – Eternal
Ivailo Kolev ft. Hipnotik – Searching for the words
Group ‘Go week’ – The way you see the world

The presenters announced that Dess and Sofi were the favourite and second-favourite of the televoters and the jury – it remains to be seen whether that pattern will be repeated in the final. Our chatters didn’t have the same favourites, but their top 3 all qualified: 1. Simona Sivanio (8.00 points average), 2. Rene Ranev (7.25), 3. Steliyana Hristova (7.08)

LATVIA

The Latvians also completed the line-up for their final, to be held on 18 February. For the second week in succession, the jury and the televoters were broadly in agreement, and the following five entries made it through:

Anmary – Beautiful song
Roberts Petersons – She’s a queen
Elizabete Zagorska – You are a star
Group ‘Mad Show Boys’ – Music thief
Group ‘Trianas Parks’ – Stars are my family

Meanwhile, in the #esc chatroom, we voted as follows: 1. Anmary (8.14 points average), 2. Samanta Tina (6.94), 3. Group ‘Trianas Parks’ (6.8)

ICELAND

Finally, the first of three Icelandic semi-finals proved difficult to call, with fan predictions and opinions varying wildly – a testament to a pretty decent fivesome of songs. In the end, the two qualifiers for the grand final on 11 February were:

Gréta Salóme and Jónsi – Mundu eftir mér
Blár Opal – Stattu upp

Not a bad outcome for the #esc chatters, then, who voted as follows: 1. Gréta Salóme and Jónsi (8.40 points average), 2. Íris Hólm (7.56), 3. Blár Opal (6.20)
