“A very warm ‘hello’.” (Helga Vlahović)
Can you imagine, a thousand million people all together? We can – and it’s all thanks to Helga.
We saw this tweet today:
On this day in 1990 the 35th contest took place from the

Zagreb hosted by Helga Vlahović Brnobić & Oliver Mlakar22 countries took part with Italy 🇮🇹 finishing top for the 1st time since 1964 with “Insieme:1992” sung by Toto Cutugno#Eurovision#OTD pic.twitter.com/NBFdRUanWs

…and it reminded us of the very many legendary quotes given to us by co-host Helga Vlahović that night in May 1990 – not to mention the fact that she also delivered the infamous “I don’t have it!” line during the 1981 voting. A true one-woman quote machine.
And with the 2021 contest in Rotterdam fast approaching, what better way to embrace the upcoming contest than with Helga’s wise words from 31 years ago, which still hold true today?
“Maybe one of the songs you’ll hear this evening will be the song you’ll spend your summer with… or the song you’ll fall in love to… or even the song with which you give someone a special message.”
Happy Eurovision month!
