Back in 1991, a young Danish man called Morten Boldt Hansen had a thought. “I write my own songs for fun,” he said to himself. “Maybe there are other Eurovision fans who do the same thing?”
With that, the Home Composed Song Contest was born. For three decades now, it’s been bringing together amateur songwriters from the ESC fan world, letting them share their music with a wider audience and take part in a fun and friendly competition (with a scoreboard at the end, of course). And it has a personal relevance to escgo!, too, as Felix and Martin from this website have both taken part many times over the years!
The 2021 edition is now underway, featuring 24 entries by keen songwriters from around the continent and beyond. More importantly, you can get involved – by voting in the public poll at the website for the contest! That’s where you’ll also find full details on the entries, including lyrics and biographies of the participants. If you want a quick taster first, though, organiser Andy Brook has kindly assembled a little snabbrepris of the songs here:
And if you want to know more about the background to this long-running fan competition, Ben Robertson from ESC Insight recently sat down with Martin and Andy to talk all about it – you can read his in-depth article here.
So get your voting fingers ready and show some love for your fellow fans and their songs!
