Salam again dear readers from Baku, where we’ve managed to drag ourselves to the Press Centre for the EBU press conference this afternoon despite not getting back to the apartment until 7am – that’s the perils of the show starting at midnight for you! We had a rather relaxing day, where we went for dinner with some of the ESC Nation crew before we went to pick up our tickets for the shows, which was an intersting experience! We had to take our passports with us and go through loads of security questions before they printed off our tickets. With them in hand, we headed off to the Crystal Hall for the first semi final at midnight. The atmosphere around the hall was electric, and the arena looked great all lit up from the outside. We managed to find our seats with 20 minutes to spare and we were really surprised to see the arena mostly full, don’t think that’s ever happened for a semi final before! We had great seats just in front of the Green Room and we managed to get a wave from Rona from Albania after her performance!
The show itself was great, and the audience cheered after every song, the loudest cheers were for Albania after her CHAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIII bits and at the end of Russia. Cyprus and Romania also got great reactions.
Results wise, there was nothing particuarly surprising, we managed to get nine out of ten, we had Belgium instead of Hungary, so we were pretty pleased overall! After the show, we went to EuroClub where there was free beer (yay!) and some food, we had loads of the lovely auberginey things. It was VERY quiet at first – see below:
It soon got busier though after the press conference finished, but I’ve seen busier after parties. Didn’t see many of the performers, but we saw Greta and Jonsi at EuroClub dancing the night away!
We’ve just been at the EBU press conference, and will blog about that later, but the first dress rehearsal of the second semi is about to begin, so we better get prepeared for that! Stay on the blog for all the gossip!
