Tonight saw the first semi-final of the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest in Baku, Azerbaijan. There were arguably no great surprises among the qualifiers, with Hungary and Albania representing perhaps the closest thing to a bookmakers’ nightmare. Meanwhile, the EBU continued to tediously indulge Jedward’s 15 minutes of fame by letting them be the last qualifier out of the physical envelope, giving them plenty of extra airtime as they somersaulted and attention-sought their way down the catwalk.
Shortly after the show, a joint press conference was held at the ESC press centre where, among other things, the artists drew their starting positions for the grand final on Saturday night. These are as follows:
Hungary
Albania
Russia
Iceland
Cyprus
Romania
Denmark
Greece
Ireland
Moldova
